accreditation
Meeting Required Standards
The above extract is part of a dictionary definition of accreditation,
more accurately quoted as "to certify as meeting required standards".
One essential feature of the services offered by EMIS is that the customer
should be assured of their quality and standard. This is achieved by
the active participation and recognition of the company within the main
accreditation schemes available within our industry.
UKAS Accreditation
As a calibration laboratory, the highest standards are
met by achieving UKAS accreditation. This provides independent confirmation
that the laboratory
complies with the requirements of BS EN ISO/IEC/17025, and is both nationally
and internationally recognised.
UKAS provide two web sites where further details may be obtained:
www.ukas.com General website. This provides general information about
UKAS, accreditation, and the role of UKAS at national and international
levels.

www.ukas.org Laboratory
information website. This provides a searchable database of all
laboratories accredited for both calibration and testing activities.
We may be found by searching on laboratory number 0123. The site
provides both general and specific listings of the laboratories
current schedule and capabilities, and is regularly updated to
reflect capability enhancements. Click on the thumbnail

Certificate Our laboratory has enjoyed continuous accreditation
since 1983, beginning with BCS (British Calibration Service), progressing
with NAMAS (National Measurement Accreditation Service), into our
current UKAS accreditation. |

BS
EN ISO 9001:2000
registration
Although UKAS accreditation
is a critical component within our organisation, its application is
strictly limited by UKAS to our calibration operation only. To provide
assurance to our customers of the quality of our supporting operations,
such as equipment repair and management, we have integrated these operations
with our calibration systems, and achieved registration of the combined
system to BS EN ISO 9001:2000. The scope of this registration is defined
as: 'the management of electrical, electronic and mechanical equipment
calibration including repair, recall and storage'.

The adoption
of a competent quality system has always been central to the
operation of an accredited calibration laboratory, and EMIS has
maintained registration of its quality system through the development
of BS5750(1987), through ISO9002(1994) and now BS EN ISO9001:2000,
which was successfully combined with the UKAS accreditation during
2001.

of Registration This
combination provides a complete and independent quality
assessment of the organisation, with UKAS covering
the technical aspects of
the operation, while the ISO contribution covers the remaining
organisational component.

Recognition
as an Investor In People
With
UKAS accreditation and ISO registration in place, EMIS
have two complementary approvals in place, both of which
demand an ongoing commitment from the management and staff,
supporting personnel development through training and review.
EMIS first gained recognition as an Investor In People
in 1998, and has successfully renewed this award at each
subsequent re-appraisal.
